Wedding Wednesday: Iiona & Jordan

7/26/2015  |  Hornblower Cruises

From the Photographer: "OH MY GOODNESS. I don't even know where to begin with this awesome wedding in San Diego. So I guess I'll start with, the day was absolutely perfect. Ilona and Jordan were just awesome to work with! These two lovebirds got engaged this past May in their hometown of Boise Idaho and instantly started planning their destination wedding in San Diego. When Ilona contacted me I was really excited to help plan out her wedding photography for the day since they are not familiar with the area. An important part was making sure that we achieved a lot of bride and groom portraits at a couple great locations. This was awesome! Typically, I only get around 45 minutes for portrait sessions on a wedding day, by having almost 3 hours with them it really allowed us to achieve some great images and lots of variety! We began at the Courtyard Marriott, in the heart of downtown. I worked with, and got to know Ilona, her parents, and her bridesmaids all morning! Once ready, we headed to the marina where we would board the Renown, a historical yacht operated by Hornblower Cruises and Events. Before boarding, Ilona and Jordan wanted to say their vows back to back in a private moment with each other across the street. I really loved this idea, and we managed to keep Jordan's eyes shut and away from Ilona. Even though they wanted to say their personally written vows beforehand, Jordan and Ilona didn't want to see each other until the ceremony. The ceremony began quickly after leaving port so that we could have some great views of downtown as they tied the knot! Everything was absolutely beautiful and working on a boat was really fun! We captured some great moments, had perfect weather, and enjoyed views of San Diego. It was GORGEOUS. After a few hours, we headed back to port and went over to Balboa Park for family formals, fun bridal party photographs, and of course some awesome bride and groom portraits. Balboa Park is an absolutely stunning place for photography, plus Ilona really loved the idea of having some shots with the amazing architecture throughout the park. Even though the ceremony was beautiful, the sun was shining, and love was certainly in the air. . the most touching part of the day was when a little girl looked at Ilona, turned to her mom and said "look mommy a princess, it's a princess!". Ilona truly looked stunning and was a carefree bride, which made my job a little too easy! :) After Balboa Park, Ilona and Jordan wanted to snap some photos on the beach. We headed over to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, a perfect place to end the most perfect day. The views of the ocean are just amazing there! Even though the tide washed out the beach below, we got some amazing images. Even though I met Ilona and Jordan on the day of their wedding, I felt that I had met them a thousand times before. They were so fun to work with that I was so sad when the day came to an end. They really are a perfect match and I could not be happier for this couple!"
