Fashion Friday: Sensational Stripes

The Anne Barge Fall 2015 collection was inspired by Impressionism through artists such as Degas in his Ballet Dancer's painting.  These gorgeous gowns display striped fabrics that draw reference to the interaction of movement and texture found in the paint brush strokes of the Impressionist masters.  For those brides with an artistic soul, these gowns not only create a breathtaking structure but also commemorate the famous 19th century art movement.

Personalized Touches: Welcome Bags

It is nice to greet your out-of-town guests with a welcome bag when they arrive at their hotel. Wedding welcome bags are the perfect way to set the tone for your wedding weekend and to showcase your personal style. Most of your out-of-town guests will treat your San Diego wedding as a vacation, so a welcome bag is a wonderful place to showcase your favorite local products and places.

You will want to include all of the pertinent information for your wedding weekend - schedules, directions, maps, and any other details your guests need to know. This information is really the only thing that must be in a welcome bag, so it is perfectly acceptable to put all of these details into an envelope with your names and wedding date on the front and check that task off your list.

However, if you want to showcase San Diego, here are some products that your out-of-town guests will love:

Chocolate Bars from Chuao Chocolatier -
Chuao Chocolatier (pronounced chew-WOW) is the first Venezuelan chocolatier based in the United States. They are headquartered in San Diego and specialize in unique flavor combinations.

Beer from a San Diego Microbrewery - San Diego is home to 74 microbreweries, making us one of the beer capitals of the world. Pick your favorite brewery (visit http://www.drinkupsandiego.com/ for a complete list of local breweries) and include a bottle for each guest.

Wine from Temecula - If wine is more your style, include a bottle from your favorite local winery. Visit http://www.temeculawines.org/wineries-vineyards/ for a list of Temecula wineries.

Organic, locally grown fruit - San Diego's perfect weather makes it home to nearly 600 organic farms. Visit a local organic farm, such as Chino Farms or Suzie's Farm and pick fresh strawberries or whatever local fruit is in season to share with your guests.

Whatever you choose to put in your welcome bag, make sure it is something that can be used while in San Diego - sunscreen, bottled waters, etc - your guests won't want to pack extra things home with them. And the bags can be generic - does any guest except your mom want a tote bag with you name and wedding date on it? - it's the stuff inside that counts.

Personalized Touches: Cake Backdrop

Details with a personalized touch make a wedding more your own. Creating a backdrop for your cake display helps to define its space and makes cake photos even more special. There are lots of materials you can use to create a backdrop - photos, flowers, wood, ribbon. One of the easiest and most impactful is an elegant pipe and drape backdrop.

A pipe and drape wall is simply fabric with a pocket sewn into the top hung from a pole like a drapery to create a fabric wall. They are simple and light weight to construct from PVC pipe. To construct your frame, decide on the height and length dimensions you will need. To serve as a backdrop for a cake table, you will most likely want it to be 6'-8' high and 6'-8' wide. For your PVC pipe frame, you will need 2 sides of the same height, one top bar the length you desire, 4 shorter pieces of PVC pipe - each about 1 foot long, 2 "T" shaped connectors and 2 elbow connectors. Any home improvement store can cut PVC pipe in the length you need.

I order to construct your frame, use the elbow connectors to connect the long pieces of your PVC pipe into a "U" shape. To create the base for your frame, insert the shorter PVC pieces into the opposite sides of the T shaped connectors and attached those to the sides of your U frame.

Select your fabric and cut the length to be 4" longer than the height of your frame. Fold the top of the fabric to create a 2" pocket for the PVC pipe along the entire length of the fabric and pin or sew the pocket closed.

To construct the pipe and drape, simply insert the top part of your frame into the fabric pocket. The fabric will hang like a drapery. You can then attach flowers, photos or any décor you like to fabric or leave it plain for a simple backdrop. For the wedding pictured, we pinned paper puff balls in the wedding colors to the backdrop.

Wedding Wednesday: Sara & Luke

May 3, 2014 |  Orfila Winery
their story: Sara & Luke met while they were both serving in the Navy.  San Diego was Sara's last duty station so they decided to choose a venue close by. Her brother, Cpt. Michael, who was stationed in Okinawa, made a surprise visit by arriving in full uniform just in time for the ceremony. Hues of blue were selected to highlight Sara's collection of Blue Willow China and the winery theme was tied in with handmade cork placards.

Wedding Wednesday: Kiley & Brian

9/21/14  |  Bernardo Winery
Their Story: Kiley & Brian tied the knot this past Sunday afternoon at the Bernardo Winery in San Diego. This adorable couple has been together since 2009, and Brian popped the question last year while they were at the San Diego Airport!

On their big day, Kiley’s mom did an amazing job decorating this rustic San Diego wedding venue with chic pink and gold decorations. The gorgeous antique glam look was made even better, with twinkle lights covering the entire venue!

The venue provided quite a bit, including a really awesome staff and great food! As guests entered the reception, they signed a rather unique wedding guest book- Kiley & Brian had a customized poster made for everyone to sign! It was really adorable! They also used old photographs of the couple to decorate, which fit perfectly with their vintage-inspired theme!

Cute Cakes made the cutest cupcakes I have ever seen in my life for the desert bar! They also made a really gorgeous multi-textured cake with a shiny gold layer! Their cake-topper was the perfect finishing touch to such a beautiful cake- a personalized pink banner!

The couple put together a simple DIY photobooth that was an absolute hit! Party People San Diego did an amazing job as the event DJ, keeping the party going all night long! Everyone danced and had a great time at this fun wedding!
