Style Watch

The classic bird cage veil is a look that all brides try on and entertain when trying on dresses but never commit to. The vision of rocking the bird cage veil on “the day” often losses out for a more traditional look and I don’t know why. Everyone one remembers the birth of the two dress trend when brides would have separate wedding gowns for the ceremony and reception but why not do that with your veil? Go for that more classic look for the ceremony and have a bridesmaid switch it out for something that you would want to rock out with. This is definitely easier on the wallet than buying two dresses. Go for it, it's your day and shows your guests the sassy side of you! Click here for veil options!

Tip of the Day

So here is my tip for the day, when trying to select your colors for your wedding, I recommend going to Home Depot or any hardware stores paint department in getting some inspiration. Most of the time they have these long and skinny paper swatches with colors within that hue. This is also known as monochromatic. These are also given to you for free so select a couple of the shades that works for you and take those around to the bridal dress place for bridesmaids dress, florist and invitation vendors. Do note that when choosing colors with different texture, they will never be exact. For example, even though you might be looking for a purple, purple satin and paper will be different because of the texture. Have fun! Don’t take too many though.

I met the creator!

Ok, so not the creator but one of them! I wanted to fill you all in on this last weekend’s show...definitely one of the highlights of my weekend. I went to the trunk show and a little preliminary event held at Bloomingdales last Thursday and had the pleasure of meeting Claire. What a gem, seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. She is so down to earth in talking to the models as they were walking around in her designs at Bloomies. Her style is very non-traditional but if you ever get a chance, even if you want a little more of a traditional gown, I recommend trying on her dresses, they are so comfortable. I can't say enough about her. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that all the designer gowns you try on that there really is a person making them and they do care how you feel in that gown on your special day! Happy Dress Hunting!

Almost every bride has some type of color scheme they stick to when planning the big day. However, every bride has trouble finding ways to incorporate those colors. The hues to use file can help show how the colors can be moderately used. Feel free to substitute your colors in and see what you think!

Trunk Show

There is a Claire Pettibone trunk show going on this weekend at bliss bride. I love Claire's dresses; she has such a vintage yet edgy look to her designs. For all you brides that are new to the trunk shoe thing, take advantage of them! The designers are sometimes there, discounts and specials can be given...totally worth it! I think they are by appointment only so you have to call. Here is a link to the website.

Magazine Sighting

Another magazine sighting occurred over the holiday break, this time in Bali. The San Diego Style Weddings family is so strong and ready to represent at any point in time. What can I say; we love to make friends everywhere we go. The one disclaimer we have is an elephant is definitely a slower distribution than we are use to! =)

So for all the ladies out there who are newly engaged...CONGRATS! Majority of brides start thinking of the perfect dress for there dream wedding. A lot of trend reports are saying that one of the things to watch for in 2010 is the fading of the oh so popular strapless look and that higher necklines are starting to come back. You be the judge.
